Wispr Flow is a voice-to-text AI app. I use it everyday and it has become an essential part of my work life. I’ve tried a lot of AI tools, most of them over promise and under deliver. Wispr Flow made a promise, and for me, over delivered.

I am sharing how this tool changed my mentals and practical use in my work in the hope you may get inspired and have some a-ha! moments. Also, keep reading for 7 ways Wispr Flow leveled up my daily design work.

Why I Adopted Wispr Flow

First things first: zero friction. The beauty of Wispr Flow is in its simplicity. With just a quick keyboard shortcut (in my case, Ctrl+Option+Cmd), I can start speaking immediately. Whether I’m holding down the shortcut or double-tapping to go hands-free, it feels effortless. There’s even a clickable bar at the bottom of the screen for those who prefer using their mouse or trackpad. The user experience is so smooth, I don’t even think about it—it just works.

UX Callout: Ease of use helped me adopt the tool into my daily work & way of thinking. I trusted the tool would work.

I’m not a fast typist. My thoughts race at lightning speed, but my fingers? Not so much. This mismatch has always made writing feel like a chore, and made me feel jumbled, frustrated, and lack confidence.

With Wispr Flow, I can speak my mind freely and capture my ideas in real time, helping me build confidence. Sure, my spoken thoughts might be messy at first (stream-of-consciousness style), but that’s the beauty of it—Wispr Flow will help me refine sloppy thoughts into a coherent, structured communication.

How Flow Helped Me With Speaking Anxiety

Wispr Flow didn’t just make me more productive—it helped me find my voice. Literally.

For most of my life, I’ve struggled with speaking anxiety. I don’t like the sound of my voice, and my thoughts often move faster than I can articulate them.

Over time using Wispr Flow, I noticed something incredible: I became more comfortable with speaking. The practice of using Flow multiple times a day helped me slow down my thoughts, control my pacing, and even embrace moments of silence while gathering ideas.

Wispr Flow became more than just a tool—it became a form of therapy for my communication skills.

UX Callout: Using Wispr Flow repeatedly with zero to minimal error promoted practicing a skill and gaining confidence. Less errors = confidence = adoption.

7 Level Ups Wispr Flow Gave Me

Emails Without Anxiety: Writing detailed client emails used to feel daunting because typing took forever. Now, I can dictate walkthroughs or tutorials quickly and confidently.

Streamlining Messy Thoughts: Wispr Flow helps organize my stream-of-consciousness ramblings into something coherent. Editing becomes faster because most of the heavy lifting is already done.

Faster Design Processes: Placeholder content is often overlooked in design but crucial for understanding how content affects layouts. With Wispr Flow, I can quickly generate text snippets that speed up both design iterations and client approvals.

Speed Up Email Writing: If you’re like me and struggle to keep up with your racing thoughts while typing, use Wispr Flow to dictate emails instead. It allows you to articulate detailed ideas quickly and ensures your emails are as thoughtful as they are efficient.

Level Up AI Prompts: When using generative AI tools like MidJourney or KREA for image creation, try speaking your prompts instead of typing them. Close your eyes, imagine the image you want to create, and let your voice do the work—it’s a game-changer for creativity.

Enhance LLM Queries: Whether you’re using Perplexity or ChatGPT for research or brainstorming, dictating your prompts through Wispr Flow allows you to provide more detailed instructions and think through your queries in real-time.

Communicate Better in Chats: From WhatsApp debates with friends to professional Slack messages, using Wispr Flow helps you articulate your thoughts fully and quickly without losing momentum.

The Stats That Blew My Mind

When Wispr Flow sent me an email saying I was one of their top users in 2024, it got me reflecting on how much I’d actually used the tool—and how much it had helped me grow. Here are some stats that stood out:

49,000 words spoken in 2024: That’s like writing an entire book! It made me realize just how much I’ve been able to get out of my head and into written form.

117 words per minute: That’s double the speed of the average typist! This stat alone proves how much faster speaking is compared to typing for someone like me.

Most active at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays: Apparently, that’s when I’m wrapping up emails or planning for the week ahead.

Final Thoughts

Wispr Flow isn’t just another AI app; it’s a tool that works. It helps you capture ideas faster than ever and can also improve your confidence and communication skills.

This entire blog post was dictated with Wispr Flow via a messy stream of consciousness and cleaned up and restructured with Perplexity, and then edited by me—a testament to how powerful these tools paired with a human can be when used together.
